BRILLIANT VOLUNTEER LEADER

We are invariably proud NEP professionals, who are contributing to the growth and development of their region. In so many ways, they have stood up for their people's rights or towards better economy, livelihood systems, and encouraging the enlightened society. They show bravity and love for their identity. Northerners have been disadvantaged before due to marginalisation, and underdevelppment. I take cognizance of young, able person full of creativity, innovation and responsibility this region is endowed with. This is our strength, that education is the key driver of development.

I would like to shift my focus to gains made in Mandera County as my Homeland. Mandera has one of its leading lights and top role model as Kenya's first founder of Normad Green Belt Movement (NGBM), The Kenya youth for change, The fight against Malaria, HIV / AIDS, Tuberculosis, Maternal and child Mortality.

Mr. Abdikalif Abdiqafar Adan 'aka' Malelow, started inextinguishable desire to contribute to society from early age in primary school. He was a leader in school, and could organise events at the school. He excelled with good performance and a graduated  in Accounting. Joining Banking Industry, with Barclay Bank of Kenya for years,  a period in which he initiated various projects as a cooperate Team leader. It was a big opportunity opened up for him to contribute fully to Kenyan societies.

Abdikalif thought of injecting his talent and dream in Northern Kenya. He hails from Elwak Sub-County of Mandera County.
During his trip to his homeland, he did Rapid assessment of the area and decided to offer volunteer service towards the pressing needs of the Northern Region. The young man, a brainchild of Nomad Green belt Movement could intervene in Northern Kenya to address environmental degradation, hazards, disasters, impact of climate change like floods, decreasing forest cover, solid waste management,  poor water and air quality, health and youth empowerment.

Abdikalif, started planning Trees in greater Mandera County and he always encouraged farmers to plant trees especially along River Dawa. One notable project, was Agro-forestry at Mandera East and South Sub-Country's to ensure environmental sustainability for livelihoods.

Through his initiatives  we encounter on daily basis a truly beautiful face of Elwak town including Reffereal Hospital and Schools where he planted tress in the compounds and free seedlings distribution.  Besides regulating a  control on environmental  situation, Abdikalif managed to implemented waste disposal strategy by conducting environmental impact assessment (EIA)that helped  transform the health facilities and the general Outlook of the town in the entire Mandera South Sub-County.

He is doing a voluntary work and appreciates giving back to society. However, reaching out to other counties with great emphasis on awareness creation. He inspired many youths and looks positioning himself as a regional hub of development. He build a good rapport and signigicantly increasiing his partnership with neighbouring counties. He is relevant in many society and commonly people from Northern and Coastal Kenya  and Diaspora.

His unique outstanding young man as the only resident of Mandera to be dupped, '#Friend of environment, health advocator and  ambassador of peace, all rolled in one !
