WALK OF HOPE KENYA

As #Walk of hope greatest organizer and Mandera County Director, I had sacrifice more than what a human being could offer not only even a walk in the Sahara desert. The dusty long fasting day (Holy month of Ramadan) and the dark scary night walking and sleeping in the jungle. It has never been a coincidence but walking at times when the region was faced by insecurity "foreign terror attack", related challenges and Education crisis. Through our walk, for our courage, faith for a beacon of hope, we had planted seeds of hope and inspiration to the young, old that were marginalized for over 52 years.

When the long walk has finally come to an end, it brought together different background, personalities, fraternity, language, counties and many more.

I struggled to make a long lasting impact on local community youth, as a life volunteer community champion come up with initiative to stop drug abuse and substance among youths in coastal and Northern Kenya since 2012. DRUG ABUSE and its alleviation took Centre stage during all my volunteer outreach activities. I took it further when I impacted knowledge to youth on the effects of drugs and how to mitigate the use and abuse of drugs.
The youth group dubbed Kenyan Youth for change constitutes a dancing troupe that utilizes talent to woo the rest of the youth out of the vice.

RHAMU SUB-COUNTY REVISIT BY ‪#‎WALK‬ OF HOPE

Contrary to the thoughts of Wajir and Garissa counties, of a more security prone zone, Mandera county provided a serene and enthusiastic welcoming people. As twitted by some observer, when the walk of hope team entered the Mandera County.I quote 'they entered another planet'. That the picture they had been given about Mandera Insecurity was totally different, is clear. People came out in large numbers to walk and show the struggle for inspiration.
I call upon everone to keep the pride and morale of saving our County, progress ahead and prosper in future.
Rhamu Sub-County is an area affected by tribal clashes for two decades but when the walk of hope team visited them, many social barriers were diminished. A good example, the clan affiliation and euphoria that, separated people in worship was a thing of the past, when the two communities were assembling for a unique Eid-fitr prayer. It was crystal clear that the celebration was conducted peacefully and harmoniously.
The team discussed with youths over other areas unaddressed band which needed attention. Walk of hope and North East professionals Association (NEPA) teams put more emphasis on how to come up with a Rhamu Sub-County cultural day event ; on how two communities can display their cultures. As part of community development, the team encouraged the residents especially the youth in making proper use of their time. Some of the activities they can actively support include;
1. Small scale farming: they can utilize the River Dawa; the uncultivated bare lands, write proposals to county governments for capacity building on best farming and practice self-relience.
2. Active commitment in communal work: planning on how to conduct mass wedding for our ladies who had already sent their invitation request to us. Discouraging divorce and build families.
3. Encouraged youths to get employment as our priorities. The youth can seek education and skills for employment.
A day to reflect our journey so far and what needs to be done going forward. I therefore, seek the support of everyone to embrace unity and build societies.
